What is the craziest story you have ever heard about our wildlife parks? Animal escapes? Haunted jungles? Here is a list of our favourite wild tales you may have heard on our sunny island.
TRUE! Congo, our Nile hippo smashed through his wooden barrier and swaggered into the Upper Seletar Reservoir for 47 days! His keepers eventually got him back with the lure of food. (Parenting tip alert!)
FALSE! Despite reports of a wild tiger, none were found on Pulau Ubin. Unfortunately (or fortunately), we may never find out what those quarry workers saw. However, we are certain that leopard cats still live on this beautiful island!
FALSE! When the response team arrived, laughter erupted when they found their “escaped animal”. The staff was not aware of our Lunar New Year tiger cut-outs and promptly reported an escaped tiger! We can’t imagine what will happen when we move on to 3D printers.
FALSE! Despite scrambling down to Ulu Pandan, we were unable to locate the wild bear that was reported. To our relief, it turned out to be a man in a bear costume! No, it was not a Winnie the Pooh costume.
FALSE! We have never ever received public confiscation or donation of a bear!
FALSE! The real culprit is the sunda colugo! It is a shy and gentle creature that lives around our parks. You can even spot it gliding from tree to tree sometimes.
